“BLUEBIRD” Starts Streaming March 13th!
Whiskey Mountain Joins Forces With Amy Trail (Piano)
(Boise, Idaho) Idaho rock band Whiskey Mountain releases their single “Bluebird” on March 13, 2026 across all major streaming platforms. The band has evolved their alt-punk sound while leaning further into the emotional weight – a hallmark of their songwriting.
“Bluebird” began with a darkly funny text exchanged during the cleanup of a family hoarder house and grew into a song about generational trauma, mental illness, and loss. Built around a driving guitar riff, the track takes on added depth through dynamic piano work from songwriter and pianist Amy Trail. Some wounds close but never all the way. This song is about helping aging parents, living with grief, and carrying the things that never really get resolved.
Trail’s contribution marks a notable moment for the band. A fifth generation Idaho native, she spent twenty years immersed in the New Orleans music scene, recording multiple albums and collaborating with artists including Tom Waits, Bedouin Soundclash, and members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Her roots influenced piano performance brings a new emotional range to Whiskey Mountain’s sound.
The title “Bluebird” carries layered meaning, referencing both wide open skies and the bluebird as a symbol of hope. It also serves as a personal tribute to a loved one lost to cancer.
Whiskey Mountain formed in 2022 and describe their sound as Sagebrush Rock, a blend of alt rock, punk energy, and story-driven songwriting rooted in adulthood rather than nostalgia. Known for high energy live shows and lyrics that balance humor with honesty, the band sees “Bluebird” as a creative step forward. “Bluebird” will be available March 13, 2026 on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and all major streaming platforms.
Whiskey Mountain is an alt-punk band born in Nampa, Idaho. Formed in 2022 during a COVID-era midlife crisis by frontman Randy King, the band is a loud reminder that growing up doesn’t mean growing quiet. Like Lemmy said, “If you think you are too old for rock and roll, then you are.”
The band’s name pays tribute to Randy’s favorite place on Earth: Whiskey Mountain in the Owyhee Mountains. Yes, we know it sounds like it should be a country band—but they proudly follow in the DYI footsteps of many other bands with bad names.
Whiskey Mountain is all about connection, love, and rocking out with purpose. We call our sound Sagebrush Punk—a term we coined and hope catches on.
Band Members
- Randy King (vocals, guitar): Raised in Greenleaf, ID. A veteran of the early 2000s Boise punk scene, Randy stepped away from music for two decades to raise a family and build a career as an educator and chef. His lyrics are packed with philosophy, D&D references, and the gritty realities of adulthood.
- Charles Long (bass): The original Whiskey Mountaineer. A Filipino-born punk from Mountain Home, Charles is a cat lover to a fault (he’s even caught ringworm from strays). His groove and energy are the backbone of our sound.
- Kendall Shew (drums): Boise-born and raised. A drum corps alum, music promoter, and instructor, Kendall brings the drive—and the goofiness—that keeps us moving and laughing.
